Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information we collect when you use ensenya.app, join the Ensenya waitlist, connect to our Discord community, test the app or use the Ensenya app, and what we do with it. We’ve written it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email privacy@ensenya.app.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the waitlist, the tester programme and the app, and to keep them fair and secure.
- We never sell your data and we don’t show ads.
- We don’t read or store your Discord messages.
- Analytics cookies on the website are only used if you accept them.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.
Who we are
Ensenya is made by Ethan Skelton, trading as ES Technology, based in Portsmouth, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of your personal data under UK data protection law. Contact: privacy@ensenya.app.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist
- Your email address, and whether you’ve confirmed it.
- Your founder number, your personal referral code, and the code of whoever referred you (if anyone).
- How you found us: the website or campaign that sent you (for example a TikTok link) and the page you arrived on.
- Your phone platform (iOS or Android), if you tell us.
- To stop fake signups and referral cheating: a scrambled (hashed) identifier for your device and network, and the result of an automated bot check. We store hashes, not your raw IP address or device details.
If you connect Discord
- Your Discord user ID and username, so we can link your Discord account to your waitlist place.
- Your server membership, roles, whether you’ve posted an introduction, and your activity level from our levelling bot.
- We do not store the content of your messages. Discord’s own privacy policy covers your use of Discord.
If you become a tester
- The email address of your Apple ID (for TestFlight) or Google account (for Google Play testing), which may differ from your waitlist email.
- Feedback, bug reports and survey answers you send us.
When you use the Ensenya app
- Account details: your email, and your name if you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Your learning progress, your pet and its items, lesson results, settings and notification preferences.
- Usage and diagnostic data, such as which screens you use, how long sessions last, crashes and device type, so we can fix problems and improve lessons.
- If you subscribe to Ensenya Más, Apple or Google handle the payment. We receive confirmation of your subscription, never your card details.
On the website
- Pages visited and actions taken (for example joining the waitlist or copying your referral link), measured with PostHog.
- Standard server logs kept by our host for security.
When you contact us
Your email address and whatever you choose to tell us.
How we use it, and why we’re allowed to
- To provide what you signed up for (contract): run the waitlist, give out founder rewards, run referrals and tester drops, and provide the app and your account.
- To keep things fair and secure (legitimate interests): prevent fake signups, referral abuse and spam, and keep our services working.
- To understand and improve Ensenya (legitimate interests, or consent where cookies are involved): see where people get stuck, which lessons work, and how the community grows.
- To send you emails: confirmation, tester invites and important updates about your place or account. Launch news and occasional updates can be switched off with the unsubscribe link in any email.
- To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records and responding to lawful requests.
We link your waitlist, Discord and app activity using an internal founder ID rather than your email, so we can understand the journey from signup to using the app. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Tester drops and referral rewards are checked by a person before they’re given out.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf and only as we instruct:
- Google Firebase: accounts, database, app analytics and crash reporting.
- PostHog: product analytics for the website and app.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Resend: sending emails.
- Cloudflare: bot protection on forms.
- Discord: our community, if you choose to connect.
- Apple and Google: app distribution, tester invites and subscription payments.
We never sell your personal data. We may share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.
International transfers
Some providers process data outside the UK, including in the European Union and the United States. When they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist data: until 12 months after the app launches, unless you have an account or ask us to delete it sooner.
- Anti-fraud hashes: up to 12 months.
- App account data: for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account in the app or by emailing us.
- Analytics data: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymised.
- Tester feedback: as long as it’s useful for improving Ensenya. We remove your name from it if you ask.
Cookies
The website uses essential storage to make things work, such as remembering which link brought you here so your referral is credited. Once you join the waitlist, we also save your referral code on that device (a cookie and your browser’s storage), so coming back to ensenya.app takes you straight to your founder’s pass instead of asking you to sign up again. “Not you? Forget it” on your pass removes it. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept in our cookie banner. If you don’t, we measure visits without cookies and can’t recognise you between visits. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of every page.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, move it to another service, and withdraw consent at any time. Email privacy@ensenya.app and we’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), but we’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Age
Ensenya is for people aged 13 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their details, contact us and we’ll delete them. If you’re under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before joining.
Security
We use reputable providers, encrypted connections, limited access, and hashing for anti-fraud data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you where the law requires it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page as Ensenya grows and change the date at the top. If a change significantly affects you, we’ll tell you by email or in the app.
